A new exhibition opened in the upstairs Owen Gallery at Toe River Arts in Spruce Pine on September 29, 2023, and will run through November 11, 2023. The exhibition is titled Compliant, New Work by Melisa Cadell. There will be a reception for the exhibition on Friday, November 10, 5:30-7:30, the same night as the Studio Tour reception. Melisa’s says of her exhibition “Viewers are invited to enter a sensory experience through a landscape composed of discarded material and ceramic sculpture. Compliant is a play on the paradoxical dance between the finite natural world and those things which are infinitely detrimental to it. Ultimately, it is a reflection that is meant to be both hauntingly beautiful and unsettling”.
