The post said people won’t hire homeless people based on:
“stereotypical baseless excuse that your a alcoholic, addict, mentally unstable and unclean.“
It’s not a baseless accusation for employers to think that. At the same time, if you are clean, not tweaked out, and can look presentable… that’s not true that people won’t hire you. I’ve been there, done that.
It’s a deeply complicated issue, but here’s some research:

With most statistics, I’m sure this number is very low and the reality is much higher.
I would wager it’s about 90% of people on the streets are addicted to alcohol or drugs.
Building shelters would only help a very small fraction of people on the street. At shelters you have to be clean from drugs and alcohol and follow rules, that is not what most homeless people are willing to do.
It isn’t just Reagan’s decision, but many “leaders” did this. It’s a decision, among many others, that have contributed to this problem.
How is it more humane to dump these people on the street? It’s NOT, it’s a multi billion dollar industry. The one’s benefiting are the politicians and non profits who really perpetuate the problem, not fix it. Why would they and lose that money stream? It’s sick and disgusting to use people, not help them at the root of the problem and then turn around and give them free needles and paraphernalia to use their drugs to kill themselves. Eventually some cities will do what Canada does and hand out free meth, cocaine, and heroin.
Doesn’t that sound like a BRILLIANT idea???!!!! It’s evil.
I am not saying this from a sheltered or hateful place. I have been homeless and was almost homeless with my 12-13 year old daughter years ago. I have also been an addict in my late teenage years. So before you come at me with the generalization that no one on here knows anyone who is homeless or has been homeless themselves, don’t go there.
I also got clean, worked 3 jobs a lot of the time with no family or outside support system, and did it myself. I know it can be done with enough grit. These people, most of them, are looking for the easy way out to fuel their habits. Bottom line! Go talk to them, ask them if they would go to a shelter! Ask them if they want a job and live a normal life. They usually don’t, they choose to do what they do most of the time.
