I find it fascinating when people saying horrible and dangerous things online think when they are challenged “some people are just argumentative, combative and quite peevish.” At that point you gotta’ wonder if they are down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass or are the trolls and leaders in this stuff. I can’t imagine they just like to see themselves in digital ink saying these awful, dangerous and often crazy things. Confronting this stuff isn’t rhetoric, it is a responsibility of citizenship. While the trolls and their followers are entitled to their opinion, they obviously can’t take it when someone calls it what it is. Every week I hear friends and colleagues telling stories about their family, usually elderly family, who have fallen into this stuff. It’s heartbreaking. It’s not a joke.
