ECU Dental Helps 15 Local Veterans

The ECU School of Dental Medicine recently held its first ECU Smiles for Veterans Clinic in Spruce Pine. This is the fourth location of this unique event providing dental care to veterans across North Carolina.  With the support of the community they were able to provide $10,000 worth of care to 15 veterans. One of the veterans who received care said, “It’s going to change my life, I can actually smile now go to work, school without trying to hide it, be embarrassed by it….I’m so thankful for it.”

In the state of North Carolina this is the only organization that has a program to help veterans with their teeth.

East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine is the dental school at East Carolina University. It is North Carolina’s second dental school, which enrolled its inaugural class in the fall of 2011. ECU SoDM was established to address the shortage of dentists in the rural regions across North Carolina.
