The Yancey History Association has received a $26,500 grant from The Cannon Foundation. This will complete the $72,000 needed to replace the cedar shake roof on the 1840’s McElroy House that contains the Rush Wray Museum. The Marion Stedman Covington Foundation added a $15,000 grant for the project . The Yancey Fund also gave a grant of $6,380. The Yancey County Commissioners increased funding to the Yancey History Association by $3,000 which was used to match grants. The remaining $25,000 came from the local community. Next is phase two of restoration which includes the siding, chimneys, windows, and doors. Phase three will be improvements on other structures on the museum complex.
