(Press release)
Yancey County Schools recently received a generous grant from the Dogwood Health Trust to bolster the outreach of its Career & Technical Education programs. This grant will be used to advance education opportunities through internships and by adding career-focused summer camps and CTE Student Organization conferences and competitions.
YCS was granted $500,000 to be specifically designated for the enhancement of its CTE initiatives in order to prepare a 21st century workforce. This financial boost will open up a world of opportunities for students, educators, and the community at large. The grant is more than just funding; it represents an investment in the future, recognizing the importance of equipping students with the skills and knowledge required for the demands of today’s dynamic job market.
One of the primary beneficiaries of this grant are the students who rely on school transportation. A portion of the grant funds will be used to purchase a small bus to transport students over to Mayland Community College’s Anspach Center and to local businesses. By providing this service, YCS ensures that students have access to the latest industry-relevant skills, empowering them to explore diverse career paths.
YCS recognizes that forging strong partnerships with local businesses and industries is critical to the success of its CTE programs and students. The grant facilitates collaboration with businesses, enabling students to engage in internships, apprenticeships, and real-world projects. These connections create a bridge between education and industry, helping students seamlessly transition into the workforce.
Beyond the classroom, the grant has a significant impact on the community. A well-funded and robust CTE program attracts families and businesses to the area, contributing to economic growth. It also fosters a sense of pride and engagement within the community, as residents witness Yancey County Schools actively preparing students for meaningful and rewarding careers.
This grant is a significant step towards preparing a 21st-century workforce. Through program expansion, industry partnerships and increasing access for participation, students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for success. This investment not only benefits students but also has a positive ripple effect throughout the community, highlighting the pivotal role of CTE in shaping the future. We appreciate and are grateful to the Board of Directors and staff of the Dogwood Health Trust for their support of our Career & Technical Education programs in Yancey County. As we move forward, let us continue to recognize and support the vital work of educators and institutions dedicated to preparing the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.
