Yancey County Schools recently received a generous grant from the Dogwood Health Trust to bolster the outreach of its Career & Technical Education programs. This grant will be used to advance education opportunities through internships and by adding career-focused summer camps and CTE Student Organization conferences and competitions.
YCS was granted $500,000 to be specifically designated for the enhancement of its CTE initiatives in order to prepare a 21st century workforce. This financial boost will open up a world of opportunities for students, educators, and the community at large. The grant is more than just funding; it represents an investment in the future, recognizing the importance of equipping students with the skills and knowledge required for the demands of today’s dynamic job market.
One of the primary beneficiaries of this grant are the students who rely on school transportation. A portion of the grant funds will be used to purchase a small bus to transport students over to Mayland Community College’s Anspach Center and to local businesses. By providing this service, YCS ensures that students have access to the latest industry-relevant skills, empowering them to explore diverse career paths.
