Nationwide Food Recall Initiated Due to Case in Madison County

A recall has been issued for a specific brand of fruit puree pouches due to the potential presence of dangerously elevated levels of lead. The investigation comes from discoveries made in Madison County.

The recall warning for WanaBana Brand Apple Cinnamon Puree pouches was issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The FDA has issued a voluntary recall for all WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches, regardless of their lot code or expiration date.

The WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches are distributed across the entire country and may be purchased from various retailers such as Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Dollar Tree. WanaBana has also decided to recall all apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches, regardless of their expiration date, in a voluntary manner.

The disclosure followed a collaborative inquiry conducted by the state health department in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services into instances of heightened blood lead levels in children residing in Catawba, Cleveland, and Madison counties.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services advises parents to promptly discard the goods.

Parents with apprehensions about their child’s well-being are advised to contact a healthcare professional regarding blood lead testing.
