Sandra Lee ‘Sandy’ Lance, age 80, Aretis Lane in Newland, the Roaring Creek community passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Brockford Inn Assisted Living in Granite Falls.
Born on May 28, 1943 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Charles and Aretes Prichard Buchanan.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ken Lance who passed away in 2017. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Yvonne McKinney.
Sandy was a member of the Powdermill Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. She was retired from the Avery County Board of Education after twenty-seven years of service. She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard, antiques and hand crafts.
Left to cherish her memory is her grandson; Noah Hicks and Abby Crowe of the home; her step daughters; Tammy Crowe and husband, Mark of Newland and Jennifer McCurry of Newland; her brother; Charles Richard Buchanan and wife, Brenda of Plumtree; several nieces and nephews.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Powdermill Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Powdermill Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Burnop officiating.
Interment will be in the McCoury’s Rock Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Sandy’s wishes were that memorial donations be made to: Powdermill Baptist Church, 268 Powdermill Creek Road, Newland, NC 28657
