Tomorrow is Election Day in more than 550 cities, towns and villages in North Carolina. In our area that includes Bakersville, Burnsville, and Spruce Pine. In Bakersville Alan Blevins and Charles Nash are on the ballot for the two Town Council seats. In Burnsville Judy Buchanan and Denise Collier are unopposed for those two council seats. John Nicholson Jr. originally also filed for the position but at an August 28th Board of Elections meeting he was ruled ineligible due to the fulltime residency requirement.
The real contest will take place in Mitchell County where Phillip Hise and Lynn Hollar battle for the Mayor seat and four people, Rocky Buchanan, Kimberly Hagerman, Sharon McIntosh and Wayne Peight go for the two town council seats.
Beginning with this election, North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo ID when they check in to vote.
