David “Pete” Phillip Peterson, age 84, of Green Mountain, passed away on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 at his home. Born in Dallas, TX in 1939, he was a son of the late Allyn and Loyce Douglass Peterson. He was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, Gene Shorman and nephew, Eric Shorman. Pete was a US Army Veteran serving 23 years and three tours in Vietnam, where he was in Special Forces as a Green Beret. Pete was also involved with Pentagon Intelligence. He was Pastor at Micaville Presbyterian Church and Jacks Creek Presbyterian Church where he retired. Late in his life, he furthered his education in horticulture and became owner of his own nursery.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Billie Rutherford Peterson; daughter, Ginger Peterson Ritchie and husband, Jeremy, of Greenville, SC; sons: Gary Peterson of Green Mountain and Drayton Peterson and wife, Tiziana, of Hagerstown, Maryland; grandchildren: Lorelei, Brantley, Foster and Mackenzie; sisters: Georgiana Shorman and Carilou DiOrio both of Asheville and a brother, Jimmy Peterson and wife, Angela, of California. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
