Marian E. Garland, age 85, of Pound Mill Branch Road, went home to be with her Savior on November 17th, 2023. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late H.M. Proffitt and Rhoda (Fender) Proffitt. She was a loving and devoted homemaker to eleven children and husband, Vernon. In later life, she continued to extend her devotion to an ever-growing family.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Garland; daughter, Carolyn McMarrow; grandson, Aiden Garland; sisters: Mae Dearing and Darlene Allison; brothers: Bill Proffitt and Jim Harris and son-in-law, Chad Metcalf.
Surviving are three daughters: Debbie Sharp and husband, Dave, of McLoud, OK, Tammy Fulp and husband, Michael, of High Point, NC and Pam Metcalf of Toccoa, GA; seven sons: Clinton Garland and wife, Marie, of Marion, Rickey Garland of the home, Jason Garland of Winston Salem, NC, Chris Garland of Wilmington, NC, Buster Garland and wife, Ann, of Green Mountain, NC, Kenny Garland and wife, Rachael, of Morganton, NC and Dennis Garland and wife, Kola, of Asheville, NC; twenty three grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 24th at the King Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clinton Garland, Buster Garland, Dave Sharp, Scott Shulze, Jeremy Sharp, Manon Proffitt and alternate, Travis Lorch.
