Shirley Janice Jones

Shirley Janice Jones – March 18, 1948 – November 20, 2023

Shirley Janice Jones (lovingly known as Nookie) age 75, of Newland, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening November 20th, 2023.  A member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she is now walking the streets of gold, embracing her loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Newton and Iva Lee Jones of Avery County; husband, Charles Crisco and son-in-law, Ronald Keith Brunnemer of South Carolina.

She leaves behind to morn her life, her daughter, Eugenia Brunnemer of South Carolina; granddaughter, Jessica Brunnemer (Evan Cawthorn); grandson, Keith Brunnemer; great-granddaughter, Harper Cawthorn and sisters: Carolyn Jones Braswell, Judy Storie (V.J.) and Nona Kirby (Barry).

Shirley flew through her reckless abandon.  She truly was the definition of living free, and doing everything with her whole heart.  No one ever had to wonder where she stood on any topic of conversation, or in any situation.  She was fiery and passionate.  In a world of wishy washy people, she stood her ground and meant what she said when she said it.  She moved through this world without regrets, and lived her life to the absolute fullest anyone could.  She dedicated her career years to Thurston Motor Lines, and Charlotte Tent and Awning.  While these were great additives to her life, she really soared in her career bartending where she spent decades being the life of the party, where she worked alongside her sister Carolyn at all kinds of lounges in the Charlotte area.  Shirley raised her daughter alongside of Carolyn and her niece Tammy (Burleson) where they traveled all over multiple states and shared an extremely tight knit bond.  Shirley was one member of the four “Jones Girls” sisters, leaving behind a truly unique legacy in her family.

The bonds Shirley made in this lifetime will carry over for generations.  To all who loved her know how intensely she loved fast cars, any dog she could love on, shooting guns, and Hank Williams, Jr.  She was truly one of a kind, her mold will be forever broken as she leaves this world.  Her “family tradition” is one for the books, and her friends and family will miss her witty attitude, on the nose bold comments, and the outrageous stories of how she lived her life and beat death at every corner.  Life happens in the blink of an eye and Nookie was an exemplary story of how living by your own rules, and being true to yourself, can leave behind an absolute legendary life story.  We will all miss you until our last day Shirley.

Special gratitude to Toby Guinn, and all the kind staff at Life Care of Banner Elk for making her final months spent on earth joyful with friends and a few laughs.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, December 3rd at the home of her sister, Judy, at 177 Bartlett Farmer Road, Newland, NC 28657.
