Ronnie “Robbie” or “Little Ronnie” Robinson, II, age 49, of the Pleasant Gap Community, received his ultimate healing on Sunday, November 19th, 2023 at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Ronnie “Big R” and Hilda Higgins Robinson.
Robbie attended Mountain Heritage School where he was the big brother and protector to all the “underdogs”. You couldn’t meet Robbie without instantly loving him. If you were a friend, you were immediately embraced in a bear hug. If you were a stranger, you wouldn’t be one for long.
He later received his GED from Mayland Community College. He worked a few years for Young and McQueen following high school until he decided to follow his passion for music full time.
At the age of fifteen, he started playing with his dad at County Adventures (also known as The Barbecue Barn) in Hickory, NC. Although Robbie played in the country band with his dad, the depth of his talent as a bass player was highlighted while playing the blues with The Mark Keller Band. Robbie primarily played the bass guitar yet could impressively play by ear almost anything with strings. He enjoyed deer hunting, especially bow hunting, and playing pool, where he won several tournaments. Robbie’s biggest love was always good music and good friends. He played music until his accident in October of 2013 that left him a quadriplegic. His love for music never wavered and he will always be remembered as having a big heart for everyone around him.
Surviving is his sister, Dawn Walker and husband, Jason, of the Pleasant Gap Community; aunt, Amelia “Millie” Higgins Price of Green Sea, SC; uncles: Donald Higgins of Pleasant Gap and Frank Higgins of Lineboro, MD. Numerous cousins, extended family and friends also survive along with special caregivers and friends: Pat Riddle and Jean Brost.
A public visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29th at Yancey Funeral Services for friends to sign a guest registry and says their goodbyes. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Fred Young Cemetery. Pastor Wesley Ward will officiate.
Robbie had many C.A.P. workers that were wonderful over the years that are so appreciated along with everyone through Heritage EMS and the Double Island Fire Department. Their care and support will never be forgotten.
Memorial donations may be made to Double Island Fire Department at 5360 Double Island Road, Green Mountain, NC 28740 or to the family. To send online condolences, please visit our website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
