Construction on some new affordable housing is scheduled to begin soon in Yancey County. The Sawmill Village project, located on Sawmill Hollow Road, just east of the Burnsville city limits off Hwy 19 E, is expected to resume grading this month with construction beginning early in 2024. The project, which began in 2021, has been held up due to permitting delays. According to Luke Fowler, Northwestern Housing Development Manager, “There will be 26 homes for seniors, age 55+ and persons with disabilities and a small community building.”
