Mitchell License Tag Agency to Reopen Wednesday, December 6

Mitchell County Government announces that the North Carolina License Plate Agency in the Spruce Pine Shopping Center will reopen for regular service on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

The office closed in October upon the retirement of longtime operator Sabra Franklin. County government and the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles negotiated a changeover of operations and the agency has become a county department.

The office will be open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the office will not close for lunch as it has in the past. The office is now being managed by Shelley Buchanan, the former Spruce Pine Town Clerk, and her assistant is Taylor Marchese.  A third employee will be hired in the near future.

The License Tag Agency has a new webpage at mitchellcountync.gov/departments/license-tag-agency which features information about the office, its employees, and links to important DMV information and forms. The county welcomes suggestions of other items to be linked on the page. The telephone and fax numbers will be posted before the office opens on Wednesday.

The office will initially be located in the old license tag office in the Spruce Pine Shopping Center, but will move in a few months to a new location in the same shopping center.
