Lora Wilson Phillips, age 69 of Burnsville, passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2023, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late John and Birtha Whitson Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Wilson, and sister, Hazel Wilson Silvers.
Lora and her husband, Hobert, shared 52 wonderful years of marriage together. She was a member of Bee Log Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. Lora loved spending time with the kids in her class; they were her pride and joy. She especially loved doing crafts. Lora was a light in our lives, and she will truly be missed.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Hobert Phillips; daughter, Lisa (John) Phillips Robinson; brothers: Oss Wilson, James Wilson, and Farrel Wilson; sisters: Neta Fox and Maxine Holloway; and one grandchild, Nathaniel Phillips, with whom she had a special bond.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC. The family will receive friends and loved ones two hours prior to the service for visitation. Interment will follow the service in the Zack Fender Cemetery on Green Leaf Road in Burnsville, NC. Reverend Aaron Autrey and Reverend Kelly Bryant will be officiating. At other times, the family will be at Lora and Hobert’s residence to fellowship with friends and loved ones during this time.
