Lena Edwards, age 93, of the Bee Log Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 27th, 2023 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Stella Howard Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, R.B. Edwards; son, Richard Edwards; two sisters: Monnie Bailey and Faye Miller; and a brother, James Johnson.
Lena retired as postmaster at Bee Log Post Office. She was a member of Bee Log Baptist Church. She loved to cook and work in her garden and flowers.
Surviving are two brothers: Ray Johnson and wife, Gladys, and Fletcher Johnson; two sisters: Carolyn Wilson and husband, Larry, and Joanne McCurry and husband, Robert. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Kelly Bryant will officiate. Private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
