Shelby Jean Byrd, age 85, of Bakers Creek, passed away on Thursday, December 28th, 2023 after a period of declining health. A lifelong resident of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late A.C. and Lessie Ledford and the wife of the late G.W. Byrd. Also preceding her in death were all her siblings and their spouses, as well as her in-laws and their spouses, several nieces, nephews, other extended family and many dear friends as well. They were all precious to her.
She was a hard worker who worked until she was in her late 70’s. She took care of her family, as well as taking care of her friends and cooking many meals for them.
Surviving is her daughter, Doris Ann Proffitt and husband, Randy Bill Proffitt; grandson, Jeremiah Nathan Proffitt; 2 great-grandchildren: Danielle and Brittany (Matt Berry); one great, great-granddaughter, Chenoa Rose Anne Berry. She is survived as well by extended family and friends. She loved God the most, and her family, friends, all people, and living things were dearly loved. She will be missed by all.
No services are planned. Burial will be in the Byrd Cemetery on Bakers Creek.
