Grace Hensley, age 88, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Thurman and Eva Laws Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hensley; sisters: Lois Roland, Emma Jean Hunter and Louise Hughes; infant brother, Lee Brown; brothers: Nathanel and Dean Brown. She was a very active member of the Church of God of Prophecy since the 60’s where she loved to play the guitar, sing and cook. She truly loved her church family.Grace loved going shopping, watching western movies and making music. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren but most of all she loved the Lord.
Surviving is her children: Barbara Hoffman (Mike), Sheila Ethridge (Jeff), Danny Hensley (Linda), Steve Hensley (Glenda), Beverly Rathburn (Ron) and Tim Hensley (Liza); grandchildren: Charlene Nygren (Eddie), Gary Williams (Angela), Nathan Allen, Alicia Lattimore (Lee), Kim Rickey (Joe), Ashley Phillips (Andy), Crystal Boone (Josh), Shane Rathburn and Kylie Hensley; great-grandchildren: DJ, Aaliyah, Mikey, Asya, Ashton, Hallie, Nic, Adalyn, Bella, Scarlet, Christian, Cierra, Maia, Kavan, Jaxson, India, Colston,Eilah, Billie and Brody; great, great-grandson, Jalen; sister, Eloise Hensley and brothers: Benny Brown and Billy Joe Brown and wife, Peggy. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Robert Norris will officiate; special grandson, Shane Rathburn will play the saxophone.Burial will follow in the Grove Hunter Cemetery on Indian Trail. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Gary, Nathan, DJ, Shane,Kavan and Ashton. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
