Jerry Wheeler, age 81, of Burnsville, passed away on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Howard and Katherine Wheeler. He was blessed to have two loving wives in his life who also preceded him in death: Nina Honeycutt Wheeler who passed away in 2009 and, later in life, Janice Wheeler, as well as a brother, Garland Wheeler.
Jerry was a member of Youngs Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and worked at Henredon for many years. He witnessed of God continuously. Jerry loved his family and enjoyed being outdoors and trips to the beach.
Surviving is his daughter, Angie Swartz and husband, Eric, of Burnsville; son, David Wheeler and fiancé, Christy, of Spruce Pine; granddaughters: Randi Edwards (Daniel) and Megan Miller; grandsons: Hagen Wheeler (Whitney), Jared Wheeler (Skyler) and Dawson Wheeler; mother of his grandsons: Sonya Biddix; great-grandchildren: Emily, Alyson, Deanna and Andrew Edwards, Mason Steinel, Maddox Swanner and Gus Wheeler; sisters: Shirley Presnell (Ronnie), Judy Buchanan (James) and Diane Hoilman (Gene), and brothers: Junior and Johnny Wheeler, all of Spruce Pine. His loyal dog of 5 years, Brutus, and several other extended family members also survive.
A memorial service will be held in the spring and will be announced.
