A school psychologist friend of mine says most of the teens she sees who are identifying as LGBT are either autistic or have mental health problems (depression, anxiety, etc.). Another characteristic is kids who don’t feel like they fit in. I think the point the original poster was making is that heterosexual folks don’t seem to feel the need to announce their gender or sexuality by flying heterosexual flags, bumper stickers, etc., so why do LGBT folks? Its not about denying reality or their existence. It’s a question – why do so many of those folks and their allies think it must be announced, recognized, and even celebrated? It’s not like being a veteran…
