And as a grandmother the person I was talking to earlier does not have a problem with drag queens because to her and her straight grandchildren they are talented performers sharing their art, not a “lifestyle,” though they are perfectly welcome to have whatever lifestyle they want. She is confused by ideologues saying that it’s the drag queens spreading an ideology. She asked me if the people saying these things are mentally ill, confused or mean. I could not answer that question for that grandmother. She wanted to know why some people think it’s ok to spread this sick stuff that tortures others not like them. Could not answer that question either. When we normalize the ability of people to bully everyone else with their beliefs it is beyond her ability as a grandmother to comprehend. So, yes, that dear elderly woman has a problem with it and so do I.
