Burnice Lane Byrd, age 80, of the Red Hill community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 15th, 2024 at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation.
A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Dewey Lane and Mamie Young Lane Hunter. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Boone and step-father, Page Hunter. Burnice enjoyed working outside doing yard work, gardening and being with her dogs. She loved her family dearly.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra McMahan and husband, David, of Micaville; sons: Hobert Byrd, Jr. and wife, Karen, of South Toe, Gene Byrd and wife, Lenita, of Spruce Pine and Bill Byrd and wife, Tuesday, of Spruce Pine; sisters: Glenda (Lee), Emma and Brenda and brother, Ray and wife, Polly. Sixteen grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 26th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Matt Murphy will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hunter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
