Darrell Stanley Wright, age 76, of the Cane River Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 12th, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Clifford Wright and Nona Mae Hensley.
Darrell attended Miller’s Chapel and loved music and singing. Although he never played guitar himself, he took his guitars for others to play at church. He enjoyed farming, raising chickens and gardening around his home, and was an avid coon hunter and fisherman. His greatest love in life was his family and enjoyed every day the Lord gave him.
Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Sarah Lee Phillips Wright; three daughters: Tammy Wilson of Morganton, Denise Crain (Morris) of Burnsville, and Barbie Miller (Victor) of Burnsville; two sons: Freemont Wright (Anita) of Burnsville and Darren Wright of Burnsville; seven grandchildren: Codey, Mykyla (Mitchell), Brandon, Chase, Nick (Brittany), Josh and Carson; nine great-grandchildren: Allie, Alivia, Julianne, Jerrick, Jamison, Kolter, Abe, Texie and Gabby, as well as one on-the-way; sister, Blanche Allen of Newport News, VA; and best friend, R.M. Randolph of Burnsville. He is survived as well by a special cousin, Timothy Wilson, of the home and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Pastor Adam Bradford will officiate. Graveside services will follow in the chapel as well. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
