Denise Gail McIntosh received her Homecoming with Jesus and her loved ones who had gone on before her on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at Care Partners Solace Center.
A native of Yancey County, she was born on June 13th, 1964 to the late Jack E. and Annis Hardin McIntosh.
She was preceded in death as well by a brother, Gary Ray McIntosh; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Lucy King McIntosh; and maternal grandparents, Hobart and Pansy Pate Hardin.
At the age of eight, Denise’s grandmother purchased her a couple of antique vases, where her love of searching for antiques and special pieces began. Denise had an eye for beauty, whether it could already be seen or created. She was a very talented decorator, and could take an ordinary room and transform it into something beautiful, filling you with love and warmth when you walked in. More importantly, she possessed a heart full of kindness, empathy and thoughtfulness which made her a very loving caregiver. Working with Alzheimer’s and hospice patients throughout the years was a “calling” for her. She was selfless, the epitome of grace, and had a sense of humor until the very end. Even at the end of her life, she sat on her couch, walker beside of her, and raised over $1,000 for the organization Neighbors Feeding Neighbors, prior to going to the Solace Center.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Christopher Stephen Bodford and Creston Elijah Bodford (Heather) of Burnsville; four grandchildren: Darbie Grace Bodford, Daisy Mae Bodford, Isaiah Jackson Bodford, and Hazel Suzanne Bodford; her sister, Shelia Huskins of Spruce Pine; her twin brother, Dennis McIntosh of Myrtle Beach, SC; longtime friends and caregivers Rhonda Barone and Sandy Robinson, and a special young lady, Harper Nosal, who called her “Gaga”. She is survived as well by nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Per her wishes, no services will be held at this time.
Denise had asked that special thanks be extended to Dr. Jeff Polgar, Hospice Chaplain Rev. Joe Bennett and Paige Woody, RN with Compassionate Care WNC, along with their staff and the staff at CarePartners Solace Center. In lieu of flowers, Denise requested that memorials be sent to Compassionate Care WNC at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714. Special thank you to her grandchildren, Darby Grace and Isaiah, for their help and love during her decline along with hugs to Stephanie and Krysten.
