The Mitchell County Democratic Party will host its January countywide meeting at the Spruce Pine Public Library (142 Walnut Avenue in Spruce Pine) at 10:30-11:45 a.m. on January 27, 2024. Everyone is invited to attend and all are welcome. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Sarah Taber, the Democratic candidate for North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture. Dr. Taber will be speaking about: how the state can help farms with growing revenue; how the state party is doing more with rural campaigning this year; farmland loss; pipeline construction; the importance of agritourism to Western NC and NC in general; how we might strengthen the land-grant university’s (both NC State University and NC A&T State University) role in helping this area in particular; the urban-rural divide and how NC might move toward bridging it; and, the benefit of local farmers’ markets.
