Vicky Sue Yelton Hughes, age 58, left her earthly journey unexpectedly on January 24th, 2024. A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the Maxidean Mosley Yelton and the late Bob Yelton. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Luther Yelton. Vicky enjoyed fast cars (especially corvettes), loud motorcycles and burnouts, just to name a few. She was an adventurous woman who always lived her life to the fullest, making suren no day ended without having a good time. She loved her “kids” at Love Chapel Elementary School where she served numerous years as the custodian.
Left to cherish her memories in addition to her mother, Maxidean, is her daughter, Amanda Johnson and husband, Hunter, of Owens Cross Roads, AL; granddaughter, Brooklyn Paige Johnson also of Owens Cross Roads, AL; love of her life, Rick Peterson and her faithful companion, Oscar. Several uncles, cousins and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. GB Garland and Rev. Blaine Whitson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 6 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held in the summer for close friends and family to celebrate all the things Vicky enjoyed.
