Penland Summer Camp Registration Is Open–Scholarship Deadline 2/16

Penland School of Craft is gearing up for another fun summer of art activities for young people. There will be art-based camps for ages 4 to 14 and a two teen weekend workshop for ages 13 to 17. All of these take place on the Penland campus, and will be led by wonderful teaching artists. Most camps are half-day for five days, although a few run for two weeks.

The camps for ages 4 to 7 are “Imagination Exploration” with Anna Early, which will include fun activities using a variety of materials, and “Insects in Action” with Christine Henry, which will combine art, stories, music, and movement to create a fun experience that’s all about insects.

Kids ages 6 to 9 can make puppets, masks, and dioramas with Lori Brook Johnson. Ages 6 to 10 can make clay sculptures with Hannah Traynham. Ages 7 to 10 can work with several craft materials to make artistic place settings with Anna Early. And ages 8 to 10 can learn all about wood turning with woodworker Wyatt Severs.

There are two camps for ages 9 to 12: Samantha Kirk will help kids bring their stories to life as comic books, and Sam Maren will focus on Appalachian folk arts such as storytelling, folk songs, and making wooden toys and simple musical instruments. Hannah Traynham will lead a two-week camp for ages 11 to 14 that will cover the basics of wheelthrown pottery.
