Poor Politicized Communication

There is a difference between lies and bad and politicized communication, including misinformation and disinformation, just as there is here in this forum. I’d be the last one to say that the CDC, is a good communicator or that their communication has not been subject to the changing politics of the pandemic, something that should never have happened. But there were also changes in what was known during the pandemic. That doesn’t make their screwups in communications lies or part of any conspiracy with intent to harm. For example, when the CDC announced it did not recommend the use of face masks in the general public to help prevent the virus, it was not because masks don’t work …they do and they knew they did… it was because they were concerned a panic would mean masks would not be available where they were needed most, healthcare facilities and hospitals. It was handled and communicated very, very badly and many of us who understood that got our masks and wore them to our advantage and for the protection of those we were around long before the CDC recommended everyone wear a mask in public. The CDC was a mess, particularly since they seemed afraid to contradict the mess at the Whitehouse during that time. Factor in that guidance changes as more becomes known about a previously unknown virus and consistency could not be expected and didn’t happen. I would have been concerned if guidance had not been changed as more was known. That’s not drinking the KoolAide any more than pointing out that the recommended vaccine schedule, while hard to decipher is not excessive for individuals. Just stay informed and take care of yourself!
