Robert “Rocky” Styles

Robert “Rocky” Styles, age 64, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, finally encountering something even more stubborn than him.

Surviving him, and a true jewel to this earth, is his only daughter, his “Sunshine”, Tiffany Granillo (husband Rick) of Northport, WA. She humbly carries on his wit, humility, and love of peace and quiet.

Being the first of four, it’s a miracle his surviving parents, Sam and Dixie Styles, could be persuaded to have any more. That being said, he’s survived by his younger siblings: Ricky Styles (wife Donna), Sherri Wright (husband Calvin), and Stacey Laughrun (husband Kevin).

A variety of nieces and nephews of (according to him) questionable upbringing complete the list of those left to add to his memory. (This is maybe the ONE area his judgement may be flawed; they’re generally pretty good eggs, but you didn’t want to tell him that.) Their lot includes Chad (wife Kateah, child of Ricky), Celeste (husband Tomas, child of Ricky), Corley (child of Sherri) and Ike (child of Stacey). Lucky them.

Rocky left his world, somewhat prematurely if you go by age, but he was an old soul. He never failed to give a good lite-hearted haranguing to anyone he liked. And despite some challenges in his life, he was pretty sure that he was “even with half-a-brain smarter than everybody,” so the intellectual impact to the family is noted.

It is also with sincere thanks that we acknowledge the amazing group of Hospice folks (Medi Home Hospice) who managed to corral him so expertly. He was a character and it’s wholeheartedly recognized the amount of compassion you showed in allowing him to be his ornery and lovable self until the end. Special thank you to Brinkley Ray for making sure he was always the good-looking man he thought he was.

Hating the idea of folks gawking at him in death, he was cremated after he shed his mortal coil.

Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Rocky’s journey during the Life Celebration on Saturday February 10th, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Yancey Funeral Services.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the celebration at the funeral home. In honor of Super Bowl weekend, the family would love for everyone to wear their favorite sports attire. Keep in mind, he loved the Miami Dolphins and Duke. Wear Tarheels apparel at your own risk!

He’d have everyone and their uncle show up or call, so if you knew him, make sure his family knows it.

In lieu of flowers, it’s asked to send memorial donations to the North Carolina High Peaks Trail Association at P.O. Box 24, Burnsville, NC 28714.
