Wanda Renfro Ray

Wanda Renfro Ray, age 77, of Burnsville, went peacefully to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, February 4th, 2024.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Pearl Murphy Renfro.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ken Ray; a son, Robert Keith Peterson; a sister, Betty Laws, and five brothers: Royce, Lee, J.B., Ronnie and Kenneth Renfro.

Wanda had a wonderful outlook on life and enjoyed every day she got to spend with her family.  She was a joy to be around, funny and always joking.  She loved to go dancing, and also enjoyed hiking, her favorite place being Crabtree Falls and Crabtree Meadows on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  At home, she enjoyed growing a garden, then getting to can all her fruits and vegetables. She was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving is the father of her children, Herman Peterson; two sons: Allen Peterson of Burnsville and Randy Peterson of Johnson City, TN, and a daughter, Linda Peterson of Burnsville; five grandchildren: Dalton Peterson, Landria Peterson, McKenzi Peterson, Kippen Peterson and Logan Haney; sister, Estelle Westall of Newport News, VA; brother, Keith Renfro and wife, Janet, of Burnsville; and two very special friends: sister-in-law, Joyce Renfro and niece, Debbie Garland.  She is survived as well by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.
