I can’t post on Facebook, because i would suffer repercussions in my job, so i can only post on here. I also received my new property valuations, and let me tell you I would not take that for my home and property. Yancey is one of a handful of counties in NC that are still on an 8 year revaluation cycle. The elected commissionners can adopt a more frequent revalution cycle which would make it less painful than the 8 year we are on now. But again the commissioners that we elect to represent us are not doing their duties as our commissioners. You have to understand that the values are not that far out of range for what properties have been selling for over the past few years. We have sold our souls to the rich and the real estate agents have gladly taken their share of profits. When all is said and done the 5 elected Commissioner’s are the ones that hold our fate as taxpayers in their hands. They and they alone set the tax rates that decide how much we pay in taxes. When they decided to take over EMS where do you think that money came from? OUR TAXES. when they decided to leave the Toe River Health Dept where do you think that money came from? OUR TAXES. To be able to keep funding these idiotic ventures that they are doing our taxes will have to increase. How much do you think it would cost to take over the public library system? Again that is our tax money they will be using. How many county employees drive county vehicles as their personal vehicles? more than the public will ever know. Again our tax money pays for all of these things, so yes taxes will have to stay the same to pay for all the perks the commissioners allow the county manager and finance office to shell out our money. The Commissioners need to take responsibility for what is going on in Yancey county and where our tax money goes.
