Early one stop voting begins on Thursday, February 15 and continues until 3 pm on Saturday, March 2nd. The actual primary election day is Tuesday, March 5th. The March primary election will determine which candidates are on the ballot for the November 5th election. Early voting in Mitchell County is at the Board of Elections office, 11 North Mitchell Avenue in Bakersville and at the Spruce Pine Fire Department at 100 Fire Fighter Way in Spruce Pine. In Yancey County all early voting is at the Board of Elections office at 30 East US Hwy 19E Bypass in Burnsville.
Voters can register to vote or update their registration on the same day they go to vote during early voting but not on Election Day. Voters will be asked to show a voter id, such as a driver’s license. Voters will be allowed to vote without the id but will need to fill out an ID Exception form and verify you have a valid ID at a later date.
