Population Growth, Voting, and Made Up Stuff

My parents worked worked 30 years before retiring. My father has passed but my mother is a Christian who is grateful for the immigrants in her church and community in Alabama who are such active and vibrant members of both.

She does give to the charity efforts in her church that help poor people. Some of them are undocumented and she knows they don’t get a free place to live, food stamps, free healthcare, free education system, and a cash card reloaded monthly. They’d have stayed in their country if they could, but combinations of violence and poverty drove them to seek opportunities here. She and her some of her congregation try to help them and their families, especially the children.

She’s old enough to have studied civics in school, even though she only has a high school education and she is involved in elections locally so she knows there is no steal going on.

She is pretty upset with the people spreading misinformation, disinformation and lies. I try to calm her down when she gets too upset about that. It’s not good for elderly people to be made anxious by people spreading that stuff and I love my mother.

She’s lived most of her life near military and government installations and bases so she’s able to tell the difference between Nazis like the ones her brothers and uncles fought against and her neighbors in government service, civilian and military.

Every week she visits other sick, homebound and other elderly people to pray, something she has done since my father died. Every night she prays to God that these people spreading fear among her friends will stop.
