I’m not the one who wrote the handmaiden post and wouldn’t have done so or posted anything like it. I think that kind of post makes things worse. That said, it doesn’t take “most right wing people” believing those things for the growing number who are willing to say they do out loud to be a problem for all of us. What is truly alarming is the number of people who call themselves conservative not willing to contradict the people saying those things. Anyone delusional enough to think this is not a huge problem in our country right now hasn’t been paying attention as they smugly berate those of us who have seen this movie before. EVERYONE is generalizing too much. But the person writing about extremism is no less dangerous if they believe what they are saying than if they are feeding it to people to calm them down when alarm is called for. The people in the news and in our families and among our friends, including scores of active duty military who are believing these things fell down right wing rabbit holes. Is the poster delusional, clueless, naive, uncaring or a troll? No idea.
