Please define the “it” you are calling common sense. Lots of “it” being tossed around willy nilly on this forum. I have friends and family who call themselves conservative who I think have tremendous common sense who think much of what is called conservative and common sense here and elsewhere is nuts, if not down right evil. I think it’s the bait and switch stuff than annoys them most. Those conservative don’t do that.
