Edward Lee “Ed” Hoover

Edward Lee “Ed” Hoover, age 84, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.  A native of Yancey County, Ed was one of eleven children to the late Jessie and Helen Murphy Hoover.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Eddie Hoover; sisters:  Emma Don “Donna” Robinson, Alice Wyatt and Edna Hoover; and brothers:  Clifton “Bud” Hoover, David Hoover, Daniel Hoover, and Rickey Hoover.

Ed enjoyed dancing, nature, the outdoors, driving the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and riding on his tractor.

Left to cherish his memory is his sweetheart, Judy Lail; children:  Melissa Autrey (Ronnie) of Estill Springs, TN, Scott Hoover of North Wilkesboro and Sherry Lynn Hoover of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Pamela Hoover of Claremont; grandchildren: Tyler, Brooke and Dillon Autrey, and William, Madelyn and Eric Hoover; three great-granddaughters:  Destiny, Brooklyn and Estelle Hoover; sisters: Mary Wilma McCall of Swannanoa and Hazel Roberts of Bald Creek; a brother, Dennis Hoover (Jean) of Lincolnton, and a sister-in-law, Carla Hoover of Bakersville. Several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th at Yancey Funeral Services.  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Hedrick officiating.  Following the service, the family will go in procession to Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery for a graveside service and family meal in the fellowship hall.
