Youth Sports and Integrity

I don’t have a dog in the youth sports fight here and now. And I stopped going to youth sports games here a long time ago because of adults who thought things like “life lessons for those young players” in youth sports should be designed to make them “the ones that actually work for a living and not rely on the government or taxpayers.” I couldn’t watch how those adults were treating children. But they weren’t my children, so I kept my mouth shut. I regret that now. People, are you listening to yourselves? My sibling, my cousins and I played youth sports in local rec leagues and schools from age 6 through middle school. My sibling played through high school and went to college on a sports scholarship. Many of the adults in the family played adult rec league sports when I was in the stands. Those adults drove home the life lessons and personal integrity lessons sports can teach. It makes me sad that some adults across the country have perverted youth sports by imposing everything from sick ideologies and assumptions to helicopter parent habits run amok on our communities children.
