Jessie Earl Johnson

Jessie Earl Johnson went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024.  He resided in Yancey County, originally from Silk Hope in Chatham County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Johnson; his mom, Louise Johnson; his dad, JT Johnson; sister, Jean Ellington and a brother, Robert Lee Johnson.

Jessie will always be remembered for his love of life.  He enjoyed racing, wrestling, hunting and spending time with family as well as tractor pulls with his son Dwayn.  He would take Dalton fishing and stay until his heart was content and then sit and talk for hour about life, his farming, dreams and ideas.  He would let Lexi take the lead and do whatever she had her heart set on doing, whether it be dressing papaw up or racing around the island.  He was so proud of them and showed up to every game if he could. He especially loved spending time with his two grandchildren: Dalton and Lexi. Jessie also had a love for music and singing that only a musician would understand.  He could play any instrument but his love for the guitar, mandolin and banjo stood out.

He spent most of his life as a carpenter and working on a farm stead.  Later in life he achieved his small motor engine repair certificate and opened his own business.  He spent his last years at Madison Health and Rehabilitation where he met so many wonderful people that always treated him as one of their own.  His favorite thing to do was to sneak and feed the squirrels and any wildlife that he felt needed a Cheeto or a peanut.

He leaves behind a daughter, Misty Thomas and husband, Jimmy Joe Thomas; son, Dwayn Johnson and wife, Charlotte and a step-daughter, Lauren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
