Seeing adults fighting over what to “prioritize” in the lives of children “is (also) like a train wreck you can’t look away from.” For me it’s disturbing to read and listen to adults who think any of this is “prioritizing” how kids “enjoy the childhood” or “learn life lessons.” Listen to yourself, folks. We’re not running a factory, we’re a community who should be supporting kids in whatever endeavors they need and choose. From where I sit, after 20 years of involvement here with education and youth activities I can tell you I think both our various educational “options” and youth sports are broken. We need to be talking about how to fix both, not which one to “prioritize” based in some imagined preferences of kids and what they do or don’t enjoy or learn from.
