Yancey Farmers Market Will Open in New Location

The Yancey County Farmers’ Market is planning to open in the new Swiss Avenue location in April. The Burnsville Town Council re-addressed the location issue at their March meeting. Previously at the February meeting, Farmers’ Market representatives presented concerns about space and safety at the new location. The Council said the town lot that has been used in the past is for sale and thus cannot be guaranteed to be available. The town council has agreed to help the Farmers Market with extra signage for pedestrians and with traffic control once the market begins.

Also during the council meeting they approved a resolution to establish an annual Founders Day event to honor John “Yellow Jacket” Bailey. The event would honor a community member who has significantly impacted Burnsville or Yancey County with a “Yellow Jacket” award for civic leadership.

The Burnsville Police Department has received a $29,000 grant to purchase new computers for the police cars.
