Anthony Dean Pitman

Anthony Dean Pitman, age 63, passed away March 18, 2024 after an extended battle with cancer.

Dean was the son of the late Horace and Nell Henline Pitman of Beaver Creek Road in Spruce Pine, NC.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Mike and wife, Octava of San Antonio Texas, and two nephews Dwayne of San Antonio and Kent of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Also left to cherish his memory are Sandy Pitman of Burlington, NC, stepson; Dean Rainey and stepdaughter; Lyndsay Rainey of Spruce Pine, grandchildren Kylie and Rylie Beam, Grayson Cantrell and Haylie Rainey; sister Jo Ann Townsend and husband, Will of Boone, brothers Tommy Hise and wife, Jennifer of Covington, GA, and Danny Young and wife, Mary of Marion, NC.

Dean was an extremely intelligent person. His IQ had been measured at 148. Upon graduation from high school, he was offered a scholarship to NC State University in Aerospace Engineering but wanted to explore other options. He loved to travel and experience new things. During the past several years he traveled extensively in his van from South Dakota to Key West, FL supporting himself working for FEMA contractors and as a tax software consultant during tax seasons. Dean was also an animal lover. He especially loved his cat, Snow and dog, BB. Dean’s nickname was ‘Earl’, which is what many of his close friends called him.

His family would like to send a special “thank you” to Drew Hollifield for his unwavering support of Dean during his illness.

To honor Dean, per his wishes, a celebration of life will be held later.
