Dorothy “Dotty” Morgan

Dorothy “Dotty” Morgan, age 87, of Celo Community passed away gracefully in peace in her home on March 23, 2024 attended by her partner, Paul Lundquist.+

She was born May 13, 1936 to the late George and Dorothy Tolley in Saint Louis, Missouri and was also preceded in death by her sister Nancy Tolley Griffing of New York.

Dotty was a multi-talented and widely experienced woman who was an artist making cloth dolls, sewing period clothing, making white oak split baskets, drawing, painting, hands-on worker in building her house & many other things.

Well known for couple dancing in contra-dance and vintage styles in the US and Europe, she was founder and music director of Celo Madrigal Singers for 25 years and also sang with Asheville Choral Society for 25 years.

She served the children of Yancey County for 14 years as an Occupational Therapist and touched the lives of many as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Meals On Wheels and MY Neighbors.

She graduated from Allegheny College and worked as a lab technician at Cleveland Clinic & Kodak and was on staff in Kodak pavilion at the New York World’s Fair in 1964 and 1965.

Dotty is survived by her partner of 36 years, Paul Lundquist of Celo Community. A visitation was held at her home on March 23.

There will be a celebration of her life at Celo Community Center Pavilion on Saturday, April 13th at 11AM.
