Bonnie Marie Laws McCurry, age 89, of the Lotawatah Community of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 31st, 2024 at her son’s home in Pennsylvania.
A native of Yancey County, she was one of thirteen children to the late Lester Cornelius and Ruby Ann Edwards Laws. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman McCurry; a daughter, Sharon Mae McCurry; a sister, Lena Robinson; five brothers: Leroy, Home, Harold, Mack and Reece Laws; sister-in-law, Betty Laws; and a brother-in-law, Fred Sturgill.
Bonnie was a member of Peterson Chapel Church. She was an immaculate homemaker and loved taking care of her home and her family who meant more to her than anything. She also enjoyed being outdoors and took great pride in tending to her flowers. Her front porch was covered with magnificent flowers year-round.
Surviving are her three daughters, Lynn McCurry (Mike) of Upper Browns Creek, Janet McCurry of Marion, and Carol Queen (Lee) of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; son, Victor McCurry (Donna) of Delta, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Junior Laws (Lenny) of Clearmont; five sisters: Grace Sturgill of Pigeon Roost, Burma Robinson (Dennis) of Spruce Pine, Jane Deyton of Burnsville, Evelyn Medford of Marion and Kay McMahan of Burnsville; and two sisters-in-law: Betty Laws of Asheville and Mary Ann Laws of Green Mountain. She is survived as well by numerous family members.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday, April 6th at Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 12 noon with Rev. Philip Garland officiating and music by James Laws and Velma Sturgill. Following the service, the family will go in procession to the Peterson-McCurry Cemetery for the committal service.
Pallbearers will be Larry Cook, Greg Laws, Eli Laws, Mike Furbay, Travis McCurry and Kaden McCurry.
