Local Officers Place First, Second In Canine Training Event

For the 10th year in a row, police dogs and their handlers gathered in Scottsville, Kentucky for the K9 seminar, certification, and competition. Over 60 dogs and their handlers from all over the country, went through different activities that prepare them for real life scenarios, including narcotics searches, area searches, building searches, tracking and apprehension work. And at the end of the training awards were given out for the top dogs of the group. Spruce Pine Police Officer Lt. Kelly Johnson came in first. Mitchell County Sheriff Officer Lt. Daron Holmes and his K9 Drago partner won 2nd place in the Single Person Narcotics Event.
