New Public Comment Policy for Mitchell County Commission Meetings

In order to provide for a fair and orderly period of public comments at Mitchell County Commission meetings, Commissioners adopted a Public Comment Policy that provides guidelines on how citizens can share their thoughts and concerns in open meetings.

The policy explains how public comments can be presented and suggestions on inappropriate methods of sharing comments.

County Manager Allen Cook says the new policy is designed to benefit both the public who want to share thoughts along with balancing time demands on commissioners in regular sessions. “The public comment policy follows North Carolina general statute requirements. The updated policy allows for the proper balance of public comment while allowing suitable time for the Commission Board to conduct the business of the County,” Cook said.
