Mary Wyatt Blankenship

Mary Wyatt Blankenship, age 78, of Arden, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 4th, 2024 at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Dorothy Sue Hensley McCurry.  She is preceded in death as well by two brothers, Jerry and Stuart McCurry; her loving companion of more than 25 years, R.L. Edwards; and her husband, Roy Blankenship, who she lost after having only two short years together due to a bout with cancer.

While living in Yancey County, she attended Pensacola Freewill Baptist Church.  She loved canning her fresh vegetables, and also enjoyed bluegrass music and going to concerts.  Mary worked as a waitress at the Hot Shot Café in Biltmore for 25 years, and always loved talking to and meeting new people.  More than anything in life, she loved and cherished her family.

Surviving is her daughter, Jennifer Wyatt and companion, Gary Owenby; stepchildren: Connie Robertson, Kay Corriher and Keith Blankenship; grandson, Chase Wyatt; a brother, Junior McCurry and Peggy; two sisters: Caroline Wilson and Freida Robinson; and special friend, Tate Ramsey.  Several nieces and nephews survive her as well.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Philip Garland will officiate. Burial will follow in the Academy Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
