Lila Jean Braswell Hensley, beloved mother, cherished Nana, devoted daughter, and treasured friend, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on April 13, 2024.
Born on November 29, 1947, in Banner Elk, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of J.D. Braswell Jr. and Maxine Tolley Braswell.
Lila used her wit and strength to overcome many obstacles. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: cooking delicious meals, immersing herself in captivating books, and filling her home with music. As a member of the choir at Walnut Grove Church, her voice lifted hearts and spirits, echoing the joy she found in her faith. In her professional life, Lila Jean served as a dedicated bookkeeper at Linville Land Harbor until her retirement. Her commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Lila Jean was preceded in death by her loving parents and her sister, Linda Gail Smith.
Lila Jean is survived by her daughters Kristen Dee Hensley of Franklinton, and Beth Hensley Masters and husband Jim of Newland. Bringing immeasurable joy to her life were her grandchildren: John Braswell Masters and wife Harley of Bakersville, and Katie Robin Masters McKinney and husband Ryan of Spruce Pine. Her nephew David Vance and niece Donna Large, her children, grandchildren, and husband Brad were very special to her. Lila found joy in time spent with her close friends and dear cousins including her special cousin Frances Banner. Lila Jean’s love extended beyond her human family to her beloved dogs, Bella Joy and Kiera Grace, whom she cared for with tender devotion. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
As we bid farewell to Lila Jean, let us also celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives and the enduring love that will continue to guide us in her absence. She was the rock of our family.
