Charles Byrd

Charles Byrd, age 83, of Davenport Road in Spruce Pine, the Altapass community, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his home.

Born on July 5, 1940 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Sam and Ora Belle Davis Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Byrd.

Charles was a member of the Altapass Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director, Sunday School Teacher and was an R.A. Boys leader. He was a member of the Spruce
Pine Optimist Club and was awarded a Lifetime Service Certificate. He retired from Burleson Plumbing and Heating after twenty-one years of service. Prior to working at Burleson’s,  he worked for twenty-one years at Air Pre-Heater in Marion.

Charles was one of the original volunteers to assist in the press box for Mitchell Mountaineer football and had served as the Public Address Announcer. In his spare time, he enjoyed grouse and turkey hunting and making hand-made turkey calls.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Laura Jane Hollifield Byrd of Spruce Pine; his sons; Jeff Byrd of Spruce Pine and Bradley Byrd and wife, Sherri of Spruce Pine; two granddaughters; Ashley Sivert and husband, Casey and Kaitlyn Butz; his grandsons; Chad, Thomas and Willard
Byrd; his brother; Ronnie Byrd of Spruce Pine; several nieces and nephews.

A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 20, 2024 in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg
Hollifield officiating. Interment will be in the Altapass Baptist Church Cemetery.
