Sandra Gail Crisp, age 68, of Burnsville, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 22nd, 2024 at Mission Hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Mary Frances Barker Crisp and the late Joseph “Joe” Costa Crisp. She was preceded in death as well by a brother, Joseph Steve Crisp, and a brother-in-law, Chuck Renfro.
Gail attended West Burnsville Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling. She worked as a registered nurse and as the maternity care coordinator at the Yancey County Health Department for many years, as well as a NICU nurse at Mission Hospital. Her mission in life, however, was to care for children in need. Gail fostered over 45 children, along with caring for her 3 biological children as well. Her greatest love for was her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Frances Barker Crisp of Burnsville; two sons: Russell McCurry of Burgaw, NC and Jason McCurry of Marion; a daughter, Jessica Hyatt (Ron) of Burnsville; five grandchildren: Katelyn, Madalynn, Cortlynn, Hunter and Haleigh; and three sisters: Janet Crisp Lacy (Richard) of Wilmington, Sharon Renfro of Crabtree, and Mary Bennett (Bobby) of Eden, NC. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive her as well.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26th in West Burnsville Baptist Church. Pastor Chris Fox will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
